Soca Rebels 20 years! Big Congratulations!

Today, 20 years ago, Soca Rebels had the first rehearsal. In 1991 we had our first gig at Gothenburg Carnival. So 2011 we will celebrate our 20 years anniversary with releases of different kind.

More about the rebels;
Convinced that there would be a demand also in the high north, for the irresistible groove and streetwise spirit which is the hallmark of SOCA, the first true Swedish soca band was formed in 1990.

Soca Rebels has been around since then and playing Soca and Calypso and promoting the culture of Trinidad & Tobago. The band is based in Gothenburg, Sweden and comprises swedish musicians.

Not only playing soca music as a band with original songs and hits from TnT Carnival but also backing up artists from Trinidad like Crazy, the Loveable Lunatic and Shirlane Hendrickson, daughter of calypsonian AllRounder, on their live performances in Sweden.

Soca Rebels are also arranger och producer for songs on Crazy's albums and other TnT artists like the new rapso duo House of Rapsoul featuring Bro. Shortman, former member of the Network Riddum Band.

Guitarist, pannist and singer Lars Hansson formed the band together with his brother Mats Hansson who plays the keyboards and Björn Hansson who plays the bass. All three composes and arranges for the band. They have several times visited Trinidad to learn about the music and to establish contacts. Besides Lars, Mats and Björn, Soca Rebels comprises Annika Lidhammar and Yvette Palm on backing vocals, Klas Nilsson on trumpet, Kristian Gustafsson on trombone and Anders Howerdal on drums. Soca Rebels plays a mix of original material and great soca masters like Crazy, Baron, Kitchener, Shadow etc. and frequently plays on carnivals, fêtes, clubs and parties.
