Brief Description of Carriacou's Carnival
Carnival celebrations in Carriacou are held from the weekend before the start of the Christian Lenten period. In the tradition of Caribbean Carnivals, these celebrations include calypso competitions and the parade of brightly costumed masqueraders thorugh the streets of the main villages. Unique to Carriacou Carnival is the Shakespeare Mas, in which brightly dressed Peirrots engage in a battle of wits using only lines from Shakespearean plays. The competitor without a quick reply earns a playful stroke from his opponent's stick. Although the Carnival entails many aspects of the main land's Carnival, this event is quite spectacular in its very own unique way.Source: Grenada Board of Tourism

After Carnival I was at a club. Yeah I was dead tired. By the help of goodfriends I survived! After the club the POLICE pulled up and said that someone had called them saying there was some sort of disturbance in the area. It was me blowing my carnivalhorn of course. Taped together by Bacchanal Jack! I went all bacchanal that night. When the cops pulled up I didnt realise it was them at first! So I blew the horn at them. Their window was down! haha. The policeman looked at his watch.  When I said it was carnival and then he gave me the sad news. Carnival is done. Would you mind keeping it down abit?

1912-2012 - 100 years of recorded Calypso

This here is presumably the very first recording of a Calypso from Trinidad dating back to the year 1912. It is an instrumental called Mango Vert and was played by Loveys String Band. Although Lovey's full name has not survived, it is known that he led dance orchestras in Trinidad at least since the 1890s. Take ah listen to it... Thanks to Dyrectah Didi for the info!

When Kees Dieffenthaller first graced the soca stage in the late 90’s as lead vocalist of then cover band Imij and Company, he was an instant hit with the women. But Kees soon proved that he had much more than looks to give to the industry. A little guy with a huge voice, he was able to place the sweetness back into soca. Initially delivering renditions of songs sung by existing popular artistes, the San Fernando native eventually decided to exit the cover band in 2005 to venture into the formation of his own, known today as Kes The Band.

Check out this interview with Triniboi Jooice at Entertainment Macco.

He flies the Trinbagonian flag high where ever he is, his name Triniboi Jooice, wearing many hats and making a name for himself in the Caribbean entertainment industry. The Trinidad-born London-based songwriter, musician, performer and teacher, has been making quite a name for himself in the UK. During 2011 Rodell Sorzano after his performance at Calo Fest was invited by Klase Gonzales (1st Klase) to meet with ace songwritter Kernal Roberts. Quite surprised when the opportunity presented itself, Joocie obliged and visited the hotel where most of the HD clan were staying during their visit to London. With CDs, Posters and T-Shirts in hand Joocie proved his worth to the interested parties and was later invited by Kernal Roberts to visit his Rama studios in Trinidad to work with him; an offer he could not refuse.
