Dr Black Stalin

Black Stalin have to have the most cool artist name ever. He has now been awarded a honour Doctorate from The University of the West Indies. Check the video from one of his performance at the end. I think the calypsoians have the biggest stages for a one man show ever, and the longest mic cord...

Black Stalin gets Doctorate from University
Trinidad: Black Stalin has joined calypsoian such as Chalkdust & Mighty Sparrow that can say they are doctors of their craft. The University of the West Indies gave an honorary doctorate to Black Stalin. Tropicalfete.com congrats Black Stalin on his achievement.

Black Stalin (born Leroy Calliste, September 24, 1941) is a leading calypsonian.

Born in San Fernando, Trinidad and Tobago to Elcina Calliste , Stalin began singing calypso in 1959, but did not join a calypso tent until 1962 when he joined the Southern Brigade. In 1967 he joined Kitchener's Calypso Revue tent and managed to place in that year's Calypso Monarch competition.

Stalin won the Calypso Monarch competition for the first time in 1979 and went on to win it again in 1985, 1987, 1991 and 1995.

In 1987 Stalin was awarded the Hummingbird Medal, Silver for his contributions to culture.
