Pan in Finland

Everybody knows steelpan was invented in Trinidad & Tobago but I don´t think many people are aware of the talent hidden in the nordic country, Finland. I used to watch this clip like two years ago and it still gives me goose bumps. I think Lord Kitchener would have been proud.

Rataryd Carnival 2009

Deep in the dark woods of Sweden in the small village of Rataryd next to Ljungby, they have one of the best Carnivals in Sweden! Last year the section from Rataryd won the whole carnival with there presentation! Check pics on Facebook.

This year they are at it again, and you can join. I will have this text translated to English as well with some pictures from the last year.

The date is Friday the 14th of August.

Hej allihopa!

Först och främst vill vi bara be om att få tacka för förra årets succé! Det hade inte gått att genomföra fjolårets fantastiska karneval utan alla er, och vi hoppas att ni hade lika kul som vi! Som ni kanske redan har koll på tog vi 2008 hem pris för både kung (Alex de Freitas) och drottning (Frida Hansson).

Men nu är det dags att dra igång igen! Årets karneval kommer erbjuda många glada överraskningar och tillfällen för glädje och gemenskap.

Årets tema är "Masqueraders" - med inspiration från all världens karneval- och maskeradkultur, som vanligt särskilt den i Trinidad och Tobago. Bilder på protyperna finns bifogade i detta mejl, för att ge er en aning om hur de nya dräkterna kommer att se ut.

Kick-offen uteblir även i år, och vi kommer istället börja ta emot anmälningar via mejl (ratarydcarnival@hotmail.com) och telefon (0761613824 [Jasmin de Freitas]) redan nu. Preliminärt sista datum för anmälningar är 15:e april. Priserna är de samma som förra årets (250:- för vuxen och 200:- för barn). Sista betalningsdatum är ännu inte satt, men givetvis går det bra att betala redan nu till PG 103 96 40-6 (Glöm inte att märka betalningen med namn!). Följande information behöver vi när du anmäler dig:

- Om du är barn/ vuxen
- Namn
- Kontaktinformation (mejl eller telefonnummer)


I år planerar vi även att organisera en efterfest, som förhoppningsvis kommer att ingå i priset för karnevalen. Vi återkommer med information kring detta när sommaren kommit närmre inpå...
