Dreams come through or Synergy for FREE

Ever since i first saw the channel Synergy TV in Trinidad I been in love. Tempo is alright too, but it was owned up til recently by MTV, and MTV is the devil so...

And Synergy TV is dedicated to soca 100% while Tempo has reggae and other styles too. Ok Synergy TV is very low key and sometimes a bit foolish but its a local TV station without a lot of funds so its alright.

Anyway I have always dreamt about having Synergy TV here in Sweden, and it seems like my dreams come through.

If you signup here at Jump TV, you get it streamed for FREE!!! YES!

When I'm in Trinidad I spend alot of my time inside to watch all the soca videos.
Its my only change to see soca videos except on low quality on the web.
So this is fantastic for me... Especially when i miss carnival this year, I can still get my fix...

Thanks to Jump TV to make this possible.

Gideon James

This is a rather new video with Gideon James from St Vincent. The song is called "U turn" (turn round and leave me). It's a nice song, but a little naive lyrics, and the video look a little like the 80s, don't you think? Its a good tune thou.

Lung Caca!

Lets continue with some more music from St Lucia. One of the biggest riddims last year was the Lehgo Me Riddim. Its the riddim that Ricky T doing Pressure Boom on, which had Mr Vegas do a remix on too.

Another not so famous version of the song is Ablah Ablah (Lung Caca). Its sung by Kakal who sing it in Patois. Jamaica is famous all over the world for its patois but in the Caribbean St Lucia is the real hardcore when it comes to patio.
Its a mix of French, English and old African words, too name a few. There is some Swedish people who understand Jamaican patios reasonably good, but I bet the dont gett many words right when it comes to St Lucia...

Here is two videos made by Kakal for the intro to the 2007 Soca Monarch in St Lucia.
The second one is real good because it got close caption so all the tourist can follow. I laugh soo much first time i watch this. The whole style is just so Caribbean and dam funny.

I give to you:

Swedish Reggae

Its sunday and thats a good day to relax with some reggae. Sweden dosen't have any Soca artist but more reggae artist. Here is two really nice tunes from up and comming reggae singers.

My friend Luddee is a part of the reggae band Snakkas Kapell They are from Gothenburg and play roots reggae and uptempo. Luddee has drop this tune that has been produced by Kapten Röd, one of Swedens biggest reggae stars and played in Swedish radio. I really like this one, nice lovers choice.

Luddee - Dansa
Download avaible at Luddee's myspace.

Number two is a labyrint productions with singer Jacco on. Its called Välkommen till vår betong, which is translated to Welcome to our concrete. In Sweden the word betong is best transleted to hood or ghetto, even if its not really like a ghetto in other parts of the world. I hope they are a bit ironic in this song, the lyrics is about people who guns, shooting heroin and throing stones at the cops. All deliverd with a strange seanse of pride. Its a really good tune and the ryhmes is really wicked.

Jacco - Välkommen till vår betong

Pumping video and remix

A fresh video is out with Soca star Peter Ram. It's also directed by Jay Will of Jay Will Films.

We also got a remix with Jamaica dancehall artist Aidonia. To compare it with the remix on Wukkin Up with Macka Dimond (Look further down) I would say Aidonia is not that good to ryhm when it comes to soca riddims. But its still a strong song and its nice to see them JA artist do remixes on the soca tunes.

Carnival article

I just stumble upon this article in the Fact Magazine from UK. The article is from 2006 but explains in a truthful way how j'overt and carnival in TnT is like.

"Although it’s 4:30 a.m, down on Ariapita Avenue both sides of the street are thronging with people waiting expectantly. Then, suddenly, they are upon us: bodies painted totally blue, many with horns protruding from their heads, rush forward from around the corner; some have wings decorated with swastikas, others carry pitchforks and blow streams of fire from their mouths. Some wear hideous facial masks, others appear to vomit blood, the ferocious leader rips a doll’s head from its neck, enabling him to perform lewd acts with it."

Happy Birthday!!!

This video is dedicated to my lovely girl.

Love you so much!

Skhi - Desire

Battle of the Sexes

This is not a new release, but since I just got it and this tune is really wicked i post it here. I love the hard kick in the beginning, it sounds like a techno trance bass drum. Its Tasha of Vybz Evolution Band, together with Nice. Its called Battle of the Sexes just like the fete with the same name in Trinidad. I couldn't find a date for the fete this year? Is it cancelled? I also saw that Amnesia was cancelled.

For all other fetes for Carnival in Trinidad 2k8 go to GoTrinidadandTobago.com. It's a long list.. I wish I was there...

New Music from Adrian Dutchin for Guyana Carnival 2008

A new release from Ma$tamind Productions. Guyana has its carnival in Febuary like most carnivals. Its called Mashramani, which means
"A Celebration of the Harvest."

The celebration gets bigger and better each year as many faces of Guyana are seen as new designers throw their artistic abilities into the production of the festival. The costumes have become bigger and brighter with the infusion of the new and youthful designers. The carnival absorbs each ethnic group with their unique qualities, heritage and culture as they come together to play "Mash".

Am a Soca Junkie!

This one is fresh out the box; the new video for 2007 Road March and People's Monarch in Barbados: Mr. Dale's big hit "Soca Junkie". This tune is real big. The beat is a J'overt beat, so bring your bottle and spoon... And it gets better and better...

The tune is avaible for download at Mr Dale's Myspace page;

Phat remix Patrice Roberts ft. Macka Diamond

Dancehall diva, Macka Diamond, is on this remix of Patrice Roberts song Wukkin Up that's on Soca Barbershop riddim. Exactly they spice the riddim up to a little bit, and I like this version best. Macka has a real good flow in the beat, she sure know how to sing on both soca and dancehall riddims. I heard from my friends that sing reggae that its not the easiest switch. But I don't sing so i don't really understand the difference.

Well this tune is tha skyate.. Jam like strawberry!

New Shurwayne Winchester tune

I wonder if this one, called "Best on the road", could be the roadmarch 2008. It's got really nice lyrics. "Yuh look the best on the road, the way yuh have your body expose". I think this one can give that extra energy that you need for two days on the road.
Unfortunately I'm not going this year. It was three years ago since I was home for carnival, its a strange feeling... When you in carnival it feels like the whole world has come to a stand still and when you not there you see that the world continue like normal... ;)
I hope the best for producer Shawn Noel for Ma$tamind Productions and Shurwayne.
Check out Shurwayne Winchester redone homepage here to while listing!

Second out is a band from the beautiful island of St. Kitts. It was formed in back in the 1980 as Vibrational Roots Combo with Small Axe in parentheses. Now the simple called Small Axe Band and spend a part of 2007 on tour in United States of America, Canada and United Kingdom. This song is called Naughty Shauty. I love how the synth trumpet start it off. Sounds right out of the Moog synthizers in the 70s. My "shorty" is naught too... =) Don't you think it has a nice zouk feel to it?

Review: David Rodigan in Malmö

SAT 12/1 THE RUMBLE DANCEHALL & HIPHOPSPECIAL
23.00-03.00
David Rodigan (UK)
Safarai Sound (Orgiginal Bangarang, Malmö)
Sweet Fred (The Rumble)

Oh, yeah. The first time I heard about David Rodigan was not more then a couple of weeks ago. Before I seen him in clash videos, and wondered who that sweaty white guy was. I’m not really into the clash culture, it’s to much bad language and disrespect going on. I mainly go out to dance, and hate it when they just play every song like 30sec and all the pull ups.

Well this evening at The Rumble in Malmö, south Sweden, Rodigan were her for doing what he done for a long time, playing records. He celebrates 30 year as a dj this year!

The evening start off with Safari Sound. They are ok, playing some nice big tunes and somebody screaming in fake patios on the mic (what’s new under the sun?). People start early to dance, it can because the music or the lack of places to sit.. Some guys dance really strange... M says they make reggae look bad.. =)
It must be nice to play reggae so you don’t have to beat mix so much, it works anyway!

After a while, David Rodigan entrances the scene. People start getting mad before he even touches the CD players.
Rodigan plays on a pair of Pioneer CDJ 1000 for you who are care... The thing about David Rodigan is not necessary his mixing skills, its his choice of music together with the passion he shows on scene. I'm from a dj culture in techno music when the dj at most put up one hand, so this was a good lesson for me. Show response to the music you play and you going to get response from the audiences to. The different from Safari crew which started the evening is that Rodigan don’t use any sound effects or have any echo on his mic and not necessarily play big big tunes that everybody heard, but shows so much love and energy people go berserk... The problem can be when you jump all over the scene, and then have to put a cue point or do a beat mix, all your attention goes from the audiences down to the mixer, and people can feel ignored. This was not really a problem for David, he maximum takes 20 sec to set up a new song, and usually he just mixes over.

I have to give this evening 5 of 5 lighter. David Rodigan learned me a lot yesterday.

Big up to Sweet Fred, the promoter who made it this possible.

Video with El A Kru, BOUNCE!

It's a soca hat trick in videos! (a old cricket term but also used alot in soccer for doing three goals..) Well I have to say that this remix by El A Kru made by Precision Productions is not as good as the original. Usually i looove Precisions productions, but this one has lost alot of the energy of the original version. Compare yourself & tell me what you rather her out in a fete! The video is directed by Nigel Thompson. Tizzy the girl singing has joined the band Atlantik for shows in Trinidad for Carnival 2k8, but is still with her old band El A Kru which is joining her later in Trinidad.

El A Kru - Da Bounce (Precisions Productions Mix)

El A Kru - Da Bounce (original)

What version is best?

And we have a bonus video:
This one is not exactly soca, but got almost a soca beat to it.
Its some group doing a funny song called "She's so hot...BOOM!".
I really digg his guitar with built in synthesizer.
They even doing some wining in the end! =)

Flight of the Conchords - She's so hot...BOOM!

Video with Jadine

Another video by another sweet soca girl. Here we have Jadine aka Soca Deva with the tune Don't Call My Phone. It's directed by Rhona Fox who has also directed a video for Gyptian. This song is from Jadine album "Unleash the Deva", so keep your eyes open.. I like the beat in this one. Its so classic and simple but got a drive in it that take the pain away. Togheter with the synthizer its perfect. I cant really relate to her problem thou, what girl would call another girl for her man... Get with d program!

Jadine - Dont Call My Phone

King Heartbeat

A new tune from King HeartBeat: BMWA & Darnella - Mi Cousin. I've been loving King Hearbeat or Kooly Chat's productions since I heard the mixup riddim for the first time, a really hard riddim. Especially the Panama anthem by Kooly Chat, P.A.N.A.M.A, moved me. You can listen here:
